Docent Tour

On August 5, the volunteer Old State Capitol docents were treated to a trip to Perryville battlefield and Shakertown. We had lunch at Shakertown.

Along for the trip were, among the docents,  Richard Reis, Carole Mahoney, Wayne Roberts, Steven Pace and me. Also present were Phyllis Gilman, Volunteer Coordinator, Leslie McWhorter, Education Coordinator, and Asley Chilton of the KHS statt. Phyllis drove the van.

Stuart Sanders of the Kentucky Historical Society met us at the battlefield and dircted our tour. Stuart is a former manager and historian at the battlefied.  He is now a historian with KHS.

Susan Hughes, also a former staff member at KHS, was our docent at Shakertown. She is the wife on Nickie Hughes who was with KHS at one time.

2013 KGS Seminar

2013 Seminar was fantastic. We had over 120 attendees. Mark Lowe gave his, as to be expected, informative, an entertaining presentation.

I saw several new faces and we had a chance to do some networking. Hope to boost attendance and KGS membership.

Second Saturdays.

The turnout for the Second Saturday workshops for both April and May have been impressive. Well over sixty probably closer to seventy-five were in attendance.

April's presentation was focused on DNA. There is much to learn. The registrants had many questions as to be expected. DNA among many genealogists is still a frontier.

The May presentation featured a hands on research of the genealogy of two different individuals. Some what more advanced and complex than what we would offer in a genealogy 101 class. To me it is always helpful to have case studies like the two presented this past Saturday.

Gearing up for the 2013 seminar. Mark Lowe will be the speaker. I have heard Mark and he his very, very good. I look forward to being there.

I'll try not to wait so long in returning to this blog.

Great Second Saturday with Gail Miller as presenter. Sorry I had to miss Linda McCauley's afternoon tech session.

We are starting to get geared up for our 2013 Kentucky Genealogy Workshop Seminar. Mark Lowe will be the featured speaker. Mark your calendars for August 3. It will be held in the Brown-Forman room  at Thomas Clark in Frankfort.
